Today I wanted to tell you guys a few stories that I hope will help you when you sit down to work. I really hope that they’ll help you to see things a little more clearly. Sometimes there’s no substitute for experience and since some of you are pretty new at this, I thought that I could show you a few lessons – I’m sure that you’re going to run into the same roadblocks I’ve run into in the past few days.
As most of you know, last week I wrote about a new making money online experiment. I’m going to be creating 100 hubs on HubPages. When I wrote about the experiment I talked about how I was amazed at how well the few hubs I had were performing.
When I first started on HubPages, I created just a few hubs and didn’t really put any time into them. I didn’t try to get any other sites to link to them or anything, I was just going off of the strength that’s already on HubPages. It worked and I was very quickly earning $3 or $4 per day. That led me to want to try a much larger experiment with HubPages, which I am now doing.
The guys at HubPages got involved and asked me to wait until Monday to start so that they could issue a challenge to their members. I went with that, so Monday was my first day of making hubs.
My First Day Of Creating New Hubs
A very interesting thing happened on Monday and it’s a little thing, but I thought that sharing it might help a few of you. I worked quite a bit on my hubs Monday and I was all suped up to get a bunch of hubs done. I got curious about how much my existing hubs had made on Adsense, so I decided to check it out. I logged into my Adsense account to find that I had made exactly $0 from my hubs. As much as I try to act like I’m invinceable – I’m not. I was bugged. I had gotten myself all pumped up and honestly that stole a lot of my energy. Even though I was bugged, I decided to work anyway and got my hubs done.
Later that night I decided to make some more hubs. Stupidly, I logged into my Adsense account to see how I was doing with my existing hubs. I had made a whopping $0 for the day. No matter who you are this is deflating. I thought back to when I was a newbie and how almost every day was like this, except much worse. See, now it’s easier for me because even though my hubs hadn’t made anything, my Adsense account still looks pretty dang good. I know that many of you don’t have that luxury right now. To tell you the truth that didn’t help me a ton, I was still really bugged that my hubs hadn’t made anything.
Naturally you start to ask yourself questions. You don’t want to waste your own time. “Am I doing this right?”, “Is this really going to pay off?”
At that point in the game you have two options. You can accept defeat or you can fight through it. I chose to fight through it. I don’t think I’m all that great or anything, I’m fortunate to have experience on my side. I know that it will work if I pay the price. I decided to let the roadblock motivate me to massive action. I had 8 hubs done by the time I went to bed.
A pattern that I’ve seen again and again in my life is that if I will persist through adversity, I get rewarded. Yesterday I made $8.55 off of my new hubs. That isn’t a million dollars but it might as well be – it feels like a million dollars to me. Adversity tried to shut me down on Monday and I overcame it.
Making money online is a very mental game. You have to get yourself to believe that you’re going to overcome.
A Solid Hub Dropped From The Rankings
I found a really solid keyword and decided to make a hub about it. Those of you that are paid members of the crash course here know exactly how I go about choosing my keywords and this keyword is a real winner. I created the hub and was STOKED to find that it ranked top 10 in Google within a few hours of publishing the post. It’s obviously never a bad thing to pop right into the rankings out of the gate.
The interesting thing is that this morning, that hub is nowhere to be found. I have to believe that this has happened to a bunch of you because it happens to me all the time with all different types of sites, posts, and static pages. Poof! Ghandi…
There we go again guys – these are the deflating obstacles that we all have to face every day. I bet when this happens to you, you start questioning whether you’re doing it right or not. I bet you start questioning me and the methods I outline. I bet you consider giving up. Don’t do it. These things have a way of working themselves out.
My hub isn’t gone for good in fact I can all but guarantee that it will be back and better than ever. When this stuff happens you have to go back to the basics and make sure your bases are covered. The basics are targeting the keyword and using links to strengthen the post, hub, or page.
Guys I can promise you that when all is said and done, it’s going to come down to those two things. The mystical force that booted my hub from the rankings is just a fickle, stupid thing. I probably had enough links from HubPages.com to make it show up in the SERPs and when those links dropped from wherever they were, it dropped out. I’ll give it a few links from other hubs and it will be right back where it was before. This might take a week or more and I’m not going to beat myself up over what happened. I’ve seen pages resurrect themselves a hundred times and this time isn’t going to be any different.
This might be hard to stomach but in the end no one deserves to do great things if they can’t overcome obstacles. Our minds fight against us every day and we have to learn how to persevere. When you get knocked down you have to get back up.
When I really need a pick-me-up, here’s a video that I like to watch. I hope you guys like it as much as I do.

Good stuff! My hubs doing do damn well, especially when adding links.
That was amazing video with a amazing man. Thanks for sharing.
Court,
With hubpages being a strong site, how long do you have to wait to link to it with UAW. Is it still the same rule for the TKA method? I’m thinking of slow distribution, not all out blitz.
Thanks.
Medic I actually won’t be using UAW for this experiment. If you decide to use it I would use it slow, as you said. I don’t have anything against it or anything, I just like to change things up to see what happens.
I believe what happens is that if your hub gets either on the main “hot” page http://hubpages.com/hubs/hot/ PR5 or just on a tag hot page say http://hubpages.com/tag/auto+loans/hot you get the extra backlink and the boast is significant for a new hub. I sometimes see the tag page actually rank above me actual hub in the SERPS too. The “hot” tags update rapidly so if you lose that page 1 position on a popular tag then you drop fairly quickly.
Those tag pages also have RSS feeds which is why I think its a very good idea to use the hubchallenge tag for the stuff that you are adding at the moment – many hubbers are using that RSS on their hubs…
Oh and you should add a few more relevant hubs too Court – about 10 for 400words is the guideline .
Hey Lissie! I definitely need to add some more related hubs. I’m choosing to use a new user because there are now hundreds of people doing this and my main profile is getting literally blown up with traffic. I’m going to try to keep it somewhat private so the results aren’t super skewed.
OOps sorry typo – I meant to say TAGS 10 TAGS per a 400 word hub because the tags each have their own RSS feed …
Nice Lissie that’s very smart. Totally makes sense.
How do you check your earnings for each hub or from hubpages as a whole ?
There are a few things that you can do. You can set up hubpages.com as a URL channel in your Adsense account to see earnings from hubpages as a whole. You could also set up each URL as a URL channel to check the earnings for each hub. Or, you can integrate your Adsense and Google Analytics accounts. If you do that you can basically see everything.
$5 today with two – 3 day old hubs. But those are the only one I have done since Monday…. other matters were calling my attention, but I put up 3 tonight, maybe 3 more before bed, and another 8 tomorrow? I am going to pull some cash out of this thing.
Well, this post came just in time, I too am having issues on a site with the Google dance, thanks for the reminder and I completely agree with you Court, you have to believe and keep going, that is the only way to succeed in this biz, there will always be ups and downs, but you keep pushing forward.
BTW, that HUB slip is normal happens with them every time and Squid lenses as well, at first they rank really high, then disappear then come back soon after, the most I ever waited was 2 weeks, then it came back, without much link building.
Thanks,
JR
I really needed that, thanks for the video, it really put things in perspective.
Been there done that. I very truthful post and I completely know that feeling. Even though I am not making as much money as you are with Adsense I can still have this feeling when I have a “bad Adsense day” where the sites might only be performing at 60% capacity. It is frustrating but then the next day they might do 150% and outweigh the negatives. That is just how it is.
So I’ve decided to do 200 hubs in 30 days now, instead of 100 in 30 days. I’ve gotten about 20 niche hubs in 3 days. Need to cough up another 6 or 7 today.
This 200 in 30 days is literally taking me away from my other niche sites and backlink gathering lol.
So far, I’ve gotten 0 adsense clicks though in 3 days. I haven’t built any backlinks though. I think each hub has had an average of 10-20 page views so far (to be fair, I threw up like 14 or so hubs yesterday, so it’s not like i’ve been giving them a lot of time to get clicks).
Still though, I would have though I’d get a click at least! What’s kind of strange though is that my other niche on adsense, which normally only gets like 6 clicks a day got 17 clicks yesterday. I’ve added the hubs as URL channels, but I wonder if the clicks are being tracked as clicks for the other niche. Naw, probably not, but it was strange.
Anyways, I’m still going for the 200 hubs. Maybe I need to focus on more obscure niches rather than long tails of some of the more competative ones…
The initial traffic is from the hubbers visiting your hubs. They aren’t going to click. You’ll have to wait for the searchers for that and it will take some time.
Hey, if anyone can point me in the right direction. I’m brand new at hubbing, so I know I don’t know a whole lot. I decided to take Court up on his challenge, but I’ve been a little low key about everything (i.e. no postings that say I’m doing the challenge or anything). I have 12 hubs up now & I haven’t made a dime & no search traffic from Google. Anybody have any ideas? Help they could give a newbie?
Thanks!
Charity
PS – my hubname is nadejshda
Um, Charity, you probably want to focus your hubs on keywords that get searches and pay decent. There are millions of them, use your imagination. Do some keyword research first.
Your Janitor Service Hub is is opt. for Keyword Janitor Service. For starters you might want to change the keywords to Janitorial Services, gets way more searches.
debt consolidation—extremely competitive
Online marketing—-extremely competitive
Dethatcher—???
Fertility Herbs—????
Lawn Aereation—might be a good one-add some back links
Use your imagination…..Heck my building manager was just in my office and he farted(or shit his pants)and right now my office smells like ASS. So Today I am going to make a hub on Adult Diapers! I bet It makes money
Good Luck

“…no one deserves to do great things if they can’t overcome obstacles.”
Epic sentiments; words to live by.
Thanks for the inspiration! I was about to give up because I thought creating them was just taking up way too much of my time.
I created one on Nick Vujicic after watching that video. I heard about him a couple of years ago and it was a great reminder.
So thanks for getting me going again
Diane
Thanks for the video! You inspired me and made me cry! Have a nice day!
i’ve had sites go poof too but if you just keep going at the basics and link build they come back. but it can be frustrating but you just need to push on. nothing ever good and worth doing is ever easy
It’s great blogs like this that make the internet and the information presently found on it so valuable!!! Thank you and thank you once again!
I are already a admirer of the web page. Simply wanted to tell you howdy.
