A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to test HubPages to find out whether it was a solid option for making money. I decided that I would create 100 hubs that were based on topics that had potential to produce profit. The idea was to promote them as best as I could and then see how much money I’d be able to produce – all within a 30 day period.

The Results

During the first 30 days that I worked on my hubs, they made $475.25 from Google Adsense (a free program that anyone can use). The hubs were ALL brand new. Here’s a screen shot from my Adsense account that shows the earnings for the 30 day period (I blacked out the stuff that Google won’t let me show):

The Research

Before I wrote my first hub, I had some research to do. I didn’t want to create hubs about topics that didn’t have the potential to make money. We teach the members here at The Keyword Academy that you should ALWAYS know how much you can make with a topic before you write about it. For my hubs, I chose topics that could each make at least $1 per day. Simple math tells us that in order to make $100 per day with hubs, we would need 100 hubs that each make $1 per day.

We also teach our members that they need to analyze their competition before they choose a topic. If you choose topics that are too hard to get traffic with, you’ll always struggle. By choosing topics that aren’t as competitive, the process of making money will seem a lot easier. HubPages are great for getting traffic with search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing and you can greatly increase the amount of traffic you can get by choosing the right topics.

The topics that I decided to write about have a total monthly potential of a little over $3,000 – about $100 per day and that’s the goal I’ve made for myself with my hubs: $100 per day.

Once my keyword research (our name for topic selection) was complete, I started writing and publishing my hubs.

Week 1

During my first week of writing hubs, I published almost 40 hubs. Yes, I know… That’s a ridiculous amount of writing. Some of you will take longer to get your hubs up and there’s nothing wrong with that. Your hubs will continue to produce after you get them up and there’s no reason you can’t work at your own pace. After my first week, I had already made $56.20:

Some people will be able to produce more than 40 hubs in a week and many other won’t be able to do nearly as many. There are members of The Keyword Academy who are working more quickly than I’ve been able to and others who simply don’t have as much time to work. Don’t worry if you don’t have a ton of spare time. Do the best you can with the time you have available.

Week 2

During my second week, I was only able to publish about 15 hubs. I didn’t have as much time to work on them but was still able to have more than half of my 100 hubs done by the end of that week. The second week went amazingly well and I was able to make $113.79:

This is when I started to get REALLY stoked about HubPages. I was seriously amazed at how well I was able to do in such a short period of time. The combination of writing about the right topics and the strength of HubPages was really starting to pay off!

Week 3

During the third week, I had more time to work on my hubs and was able to complete the rest of my hubs (I think I did 43 hubs that week). Frankly it was a lot of work but there’s no reason that anyone needs to do them as quickly as I did. Everyone should work at their own pace and even if it takes you a few months to finish what you set out to accomplish, you’ll be glad that you did. During the third week my earnings pulled back a little bit but I was still able to make $88.80:

Week 4

Since I had the hubs done before week 4, I was able to spend my fourth week improving the hubs. I did that by linking related hubs to each other and promoting them. It was a great week for income and I was able to make $164.11:

As you can see this experiment was a lot of fun, but there was a lot more fun to be had after the experiment…

Days 31-60

The month after the experiment was even more fun than the experiment itself. The hubs that I created during the 30 days of my experiment made $596.01:

That brought the grand total I was able to make during my first two months on HubPages to $1071.26. I’m now working on promoting my hubs so that they can reach their potential of $3,000 per month. That will take a few more months and I’ll update this page with my progress!
