A few weeks ago I posted about posting links on Google. I was pretty curious about what the program was, so I bought it to try it out. It only cost $1 to try, and I try a lot of programs so I thought what the heck.
The program that you’re actually buying is Joel Comm’s My Internet Payday. Being an experienced marketer I can tell you that the program isn’t terrible, but I’ve seen better.
*Update – it appears that this scheme is also being used to sell other programs that are similar in nature. There’s no way for me to know if this offer will end up trying to sell you My Internet Payday or not because I’m not going to buy it again, but the landing page I followed had the same copy.
The program costs $78 per month, and you’re given access to a small piece of the program each week and it takes 13 weeks to be shown the full program. That means you’re going to have to pay four times to get the entire program, so it’s going to cost a little over $300 if you want the whole thing.
My problem with what’s going on isn’t the program itself. I think there are better deals on programs that teach with a lot more clarity, but a person could learn a thing or two if they bought it. The biggest problem is in the marketing of the program. Here’s a page that’s very typical of what’s going on to promote this product:

So some guy who is supposedly named Paul Steinbach (who is supposed to be from Provo – same town where I live [yeah right] is claiming to be making over $20,000 per month using this system. The funny thing is the the domain is privately registered so who knows who really owns it, and there is no Paul Steinbach who lives in Provo – at least there isn’t one listed on the phone book.
This is typical dishonorable marketing, intended to take money from newbies. They are going to act like they live in the same town as you, show you a picture of a person that’s about the same age as you, and act like they are in the same circumstances as you. Then they tell you how they were just like you and now drive a Lamborghini. They’re going to tell you some story about you can become Bill Gates as long as you have a sixth grade education.
Last week when I was in Arizona I clicked on one of the posting links on Google ads and sure enough, I got some guy in the Phoenix area about my same age telling me a similar story.
I bet you anything that the FTC will come down on this crap just like they came down on the Acai Berry Diet blogs. This is fraudulent marketing and people that are participating in this can get in huge trouble.
I’m not saying that Joel Comm will get busted or anything like that. The people marketing the product are the ones who are breaking the law.
And skimming the comments on the page you could tell they just washed repeated the site and it’s content with the exception of the “product of the month”
Yeah exactly willis – my thoughts exactly. I like how they use the comments as testimonials – probably so that later they can say that they aren’t saying that stuff, commentators are. LOL

When I went to that Paul Steinbach’s site, it said he was from a town nearby me in New Jersey. He’s got a program running where it tells you he’s from wherever your IP is out of.
Hahahahaha very nice. I figured it would at least direct people from other cities to a different URL. I guess not!! Lol way too funny.
I have to admit…I read the same artical and Paul is now saying he lives in Athens GA…which is where I live. Why not be honest. When you tell one lie as easily as he…there will be another. And why does he say he is from every home town that you are in when you log on to his site. How silly.
Ok, funny guys, I’m the real Paul Steinbach and I move around a lot. I work all over the country very hard promoting this system. That’s why you see different towns on the ads!

Golly gee whiz, it must be my lucky day – maybe I can get together with good ole Paul over lunch (my treat!) and pick his brain a bit. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot – but I’ll be damn sure to keep my hand on my wallet the whole time.
I HATE this kind of crap, and I’m not the least bit surprised considering the source. Not the first time I’ve seen this sort of slimy scumbucket shenanigans coming out of that camp.

If he has to rely on deceit and lies to get paid, then he must not be good at anything else. He reminds me of one of those lying beggars who will do or say anything for a buck that they didn’t earn (although I’ve never seen a homeless bum in a lambo). Well, as much as I dislike those types of marketing, I’ll have to say that Uncle Sam should stay out of it. Sure, those ads are mostly fiction but I believe in the end, it’s the Consumer responsibility to use some common sense when buying a product.
We have enough Government in our life already. No, let me correct that, we have way TOO MUCH Government in our life already. And it looks like we’re going to be getting more whether we like it or not.
They already tell us what we should and should not be eating. They tell the restaurants how to cook food (Mickey D Fries, etc)
Not to mention that if we work hard and make a lot of money, they’ll consider us rich and want nearly 50% or more of our money. And let’s not even mention what will happen if we do really well and our company gives us a BONUS!
I’m sorry, but we shouldn’t all be victims. If I fall for some advertising on a crappy product (and yes, I still do from time to time) I’ll suck it up and either keep the product or return it (if it has a satisfaction guarantee). I don’t go whining to Uncle Sam.
I followed the link above to have a look-see at the landing page. As much as I hate to admit it, if someone would buy something from that page, they deserve what they get. The guy looks like a Pimp! LOL
Really though. I don’t want to sound cold and heartless, but there will always be a segment of the population that will spend their money on stuff like that. If they fall for ads such as these or Acai Berry weight loss supplements or whatever, then they may be getting what they deserve. At the end of the day, some people will lose weight with Acai Berry and some will make money with the program above.
Should Court and Mark give refunds to those who don’t make money with their program? I’m a Student and I can honestly say that I made my money back tenfold within 30 minutes of watching the first video. But I know others will not make money for whatever reason (probably because they fail to act on the info). But still, should they get refunds? Do we throw people like Billy Mays and Ron Popeil in jail because OxiClean fails to remove a stain or some schmoe can’t make Julienne Fries? You see where I’m going? Where does it stop?
Sorry for the rant, you hit a nerve with this one. I’m tired of this victim mentality so many people today seem to have plus I’m looking at my estimated quarterly tax payment…

I’m with Don. The government needs to stay out. The goverment stimulus bill is and was the biggest scam ever in our history so far. If the US government wants to get involved in shutting down scams, they need to shut themself down first.
Well this is almost a sterotype of how NOT to create a landing page. One thing I learned awhile ago is to stay away from offers that show photos of a mansion, an expensive car, or a guy wearing sunglasses. This page breaks 2 1/2 of those rules (the residence looks like a condo, but a fancy one).
Does someone actually teach people that they should create selling or preselling pages like this? And does it work? Maybe it works for ultra-newbies but when I saw this page I quickly exited and didn’t even read the content (except the part about Paul being in the same town where I work – yes I saw this at work.)
That can’t possibly be an affiliate site. Maybe it’s a bad parody of an affiliate site designed by one of Joel Comm’s competitors who wants all of Joel’s potential customers to laugh themselves to death before they can buy his product.

OK, I’ll turn the snark machine off for a minute and get sincere. I want to address a sincere comment to Don, meant with all respect and not with the intent of stifling your free speech or anything. Just my opinion: as a regular reader and poster here, I really, really hope that Court and Mark’s useful little piece of internet paradise doesn’t turn into a place where people argue about politics. Every time I read a political argument on a site about making money, I get a picture in my mind of dollar signs disappearing into a vacuum cleaner as we all waste our time barking about things we can’t change, instead of writing posts and getting backlinks (or relaxing with a good laugh about Paul Steinbach).

Ya just a heads up to some… I got sucked into one of these things a couple of months ago and it ended up being eMillionaire. Wow, I couldn’t believe they were going to send a package on making millions online for only $1.95!! How could I be so lucky?!? And the person on the website lived just literally down the street lol…
Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up with a couple of unwelcome charges on my credit card (which I’m disputing) and no easy way to opt out of the program. They provide you with an email address to “unsubscribe” but you don’t get any written (email or otherwise) confirmation. And I never got the package they promised.
After some research, I found that they were listed with complaints from the Florida BBB and had operated under a different name previously, and eventually had to settle a bunch of legal complaints for a considerable amount of money.
Yea this is the kind of thing I got sucked up into for a few years. I will admit my stupidity here. I bought a lot of these programs. I guess I just wanted to be a success here online that I was willing to try anything. I never bought this program but I did purchase many just like it. I just look at it this way. If I threw all that money out there on ebooks and programs and I am still here trying, then I guess it just gives me a little edge. I know a lot about what doesn’t work now and I am better off for it.
Amen to what BilBob says. I too lost a lot of money (11K plus)trying to make it big on the internet. They will promise you the moon and then once they get your money, its’ so long. Oh, they pretend to help you, but you don’t get the REAL help you need. And some, one in particular, makes fun of you because you don’t make it big; say you are lazy and such all the while boasting about how much money he makes.

The check is also made out to someone in MD, USA and if you look closely enough the written value of the check is for something like US $106.25, not the $27,433.16 you see on the right hand side.
