Honestly I’m a little blown away at how well my new make money experiment is going. Right now I’m well ahead of the pace I need to sustain to get to 100 hubs and they are seriously outperforming my expectations.
I’ve already done a lot of work, but it has definitely been worth it. The nice thing about committing myself to this experiment here on the blog is that it’s easier to motivate myself to get it done. So far I’ve been doing the experiment for a week and have written about 40 solid hubs. So far the experiment has made $56.20 (it’s 100% Adsense income). I expect the experiment to yield at least $300 this month and more than $1000 next month. I’m sure that you’re going to want to know where I’m getting these numbers from. I haven’t made a spreadsheet for this or anything but generally speaking, any web property will perform better as time goes on. I see this time and time again and know that these hubs probably aren’t going to get worse, they’re going to get better.
By the end of the experiment I will also have 60 more hubs out there and that adds to the potential. I would expect them to perform just as well as the ones I have so even if the hubs I already have stay the same, I should make $140.50 during the last week of the experiment. That’s approximately $56.20 for the hubs I have and $83 for the 60 hubs that I still need to make.
The total income for each of the next two weeks should be somewhere between the $56.20 and the $140. It could be better than that or slightly worse – we’re just going to have to see.
The $1000 number for next month is based on the fact that there is almost always more traffic to be had after the pages are up for more than a month. If they produce $140 during the last week of the 30 day experiment, they should for sure average over $200 for next month and probably over $250.
General Advice For Making Money With HubPages
- Target non-competitive keyword phrases that have decent Adwords CPCs.
- Make solid hubs. Most of my hubs are at least 800 original words and contain useful links, feeds, news, and videos.
- Give links from hubs to related hubs that you have.

Are you using any outside links to your HubPages to increase SERPS? I’ve made eleven hubs so far, and brought in just under $1. I’m not discouraged, just curious if I am doing this right.
I’m going to be working on that during the last week or two of the experiment and it will definitely help. If you can get other sites to link to your hubs they will always perform better.
How do I get started? I’m understanding a lil, but not to much of all these things ur talking about.
I made 7 hubs about 6 weeks ago, they have received 2500 views, but have only made $6. This, I believe, is in part because I did not target keywords–so they ranked for a particular term. But, it is worth noting that a large majority of the traffic you will get is from ‘hubbers,’ and they do not click ads.
I look forward to reading your next update.
edit: they did not rank for a particular term
court,
Where is your traffic coming from? Are those sites ranking in the SERPS?
So far all of my traffic is from hubbers. According to my stats Hubbers don’t click adds. I started building hubs last Tuesday and haven’t had a click yet. My keywords are fairly competitive so it might be a while before I see G traffic. I will get less competitive with my next hubs.
The traffic that’s clicking is coming mostly from Google. Hubbers aren’t going to click ads hardly ever.
Hey Court–are you using the same account for all your Hubs?
I actually have a few different ones! I don’t really see a problem with using one account for all of them though. People tend to want to ‘help’ me by clicking on my ads and I really don’t want that so I have some other identities that I’m using for most of my hubs.
Court, you’re killin’ it and it’s great that you’re exposing the true potential of HubPages with this experiment. But, people shouldn’t kid themselves, you also hit on a few main points that are helping you really take advantage of the love that most search engines have for HubPages:
1. You’re writing original content that is usually 800 words+
2. You have taken the time to research the keywords that can help you earn a high CPC dollar amount and you’re also researching to see how crowded and competitive the keywords are, too.
3. You are researching and adding links, videos and other things that are relevant and helpful to the reader, which will give your Hub more love in the long run. You’re not scared that someone might click another useful link instead of your AdSense ads because if no one can find it in the first place, then it doesn’t really matter.
Keep up the great work, my man — I’m doing my best to catch up to you this week.
Also, what would you say is your average time spent on each Hub that you’re publishing? Is most time spent on research or writing?
Ryan Hupfer
HubPages Communicator of Awesomeness!
It’s a little hard to say how much time I’m spending….hmm..
Well some of the hubs are built around topics that I already have really extensive knowledge about. Those hubs are easy and only take like 30 minutes. Most others take more like 60, most of which is going to be research time. The better you can make the hub, the better it’s going to rank and so it’s worth the research time.
Court, what about the time spent on KW research? Do you have software to do that for you?
I am behind you in terms of Hubs and $ made. I am at 16 hubs and $13.00 made. CPC is fluctuating wildly. 2 cents now, 50 cents next. Where as my sites are fairly constant. Haven’t had time to put some up, but I have tons of content ready to put up in the next couple of days.
Joshua it sounds like you’re doing great so far. CPC is going to fluctuate because of the different types of people that will find your hubs. Some hubs will also have higher CPCs than others. If you install Google Analytics you can see which URLs are getting clicks.
Google Analytics is not my friend after Google De-indexed 95% of my sites. I just use adsense URL tracking, or keep an eye on the rankings… My de-indexed sites were all based on these Keywords so I am pretty knowledgeable about how much traffic they are seeing at what position.
Hi Court
This challenge is wicked – like you it is keeping me motivated although I have fallen behind due to some bad news I received. But I am going to do the 100 in 30 days.
I am totally 100% new to hubpages so have no idea on how to judge whether a keyword is too competitive or not. i.e. is there a guide on how many pages on google hubpages can beat without some serious link building.
Any help you could give would be great as you are obviously an expert at this.
All the best and good luck with your testing.
Rach
Doh – I have just seen the keyword course – sorry guys – blonde moment!!!
Take care
Rach
We have specific competition rules in the members’ area Rach, but the basic idea is that you want to go up against weaker sites. You can get a decent idea about weakness by looking at PageRank.
Hey Court, are you getting backlinks or social bookmarking to your Hubpages?
I’m tryin out the 30in30 and hardly getting any traffic to my Hubpages…maybe its the keyword I’m targeting. Are you using the keyword research process mention in the Keyword Crash Course?
Thanks in advance!
I’m not bookmarking and will try to get some links when I have some time. As of right now I have used a few EzineArticles. Yes – definitely using the research process from The Keyword Crash Course.
I’m doing quite well too. I’ve got 11 hubs so far and have made just over $60 from adsense/amazon/my own ebook sales.
I’m pretty pleased actually. I haven’t been doing as much keyword research as I normally do, and have been doing a lot of different types of hubs to experiment as to which does well, so it’s been quite fun.
Looking forward to doing the rest of my 30 (and starting to think I should do 100 now).
Tracey
Tracey that’s AWESOME! It sounds like you’re going to have a great month, even if you decide to stick with 30.
Hello Court,
I am participating in the challenge, and I “bug” Ryan a couple times a week on FaceBook chat. He’s great!
Success earning passive income from HubPages is a big goal of mine, so I was beside myself when I heard you were doing this experiment. My excitement about the challenge continues today.
As a result of the challenge, I joined your crash course last week.
If you are open to it, I was hoping you might email me one of the hubber handles you created on HubPages for the challenge. I’m interested in the tone and title(s) you employ — and I promise not to “help” you in the way you mention in the content above.
Is that possible?
Thank you,
–Reg Brittain
Reg I’m sorry – I had to make the decision to not give it to anyone. Too many people want it!
Understood. I hope the challenge continues to go well for you. I followed your advice in this post in the hubs I posted today, so thank you.
–Reg
Hey Court,
I’m doing the 30 in 30 days challenge.. so far I’ve made 8 cents
yet to get any real search traffic though. I have made a couple of hubs that have debuted in the SERPS at #18 for some very high traffic keywords.. then when I build some supporting hubs to link to them, they disappear from the SERPS entirely! Can you share any insight into what’s going on? I’m totally baffled.
James it probably isn’t as it appears. When you first publish a hub you’re getting a lot of extra links from HubPages, links from tag pages, etc. As more people post hubs, your links get pushed deeper into the site and become less effective. This is probably what’s causing your issue.
Trust me, it’s not damaging them to support them with links from other hubs in fact it would be worse if you weren’t doing that.
Ahh okay, that makes sense.. I noticed today that a couple of hubs have reappeared and are slowly crawling back up the SERPS – I’ll keep linking to them from new hubs, and maybe try to target really long tail phrases, to cure my impatience
It’s nice to see a few people here actually making a bit of money.
I’ve created 50 hubs and made about 2 bucks. All hubs are keyword targeted. A bit disappointing. However, I’m going to change my track completely now because of it.
SO far, all my hubs have been in fairly competitive niches — too competitive to rank high on the SERP’s right off the bat. As a result I’m getting very little traffic.
I’m still glad I put the effort in — these hubs will be nice to grow. I’ll get nice link juice for future niche websites.
But for me, the purpose of this experient is to see if I can make money with hub pages, not generate potential links.
So I’m going to go after very low competition niches now — going to be MUCH easier to rank in the search engines. It’s fine to make hubs in completive niches (skin care, hairloss, weight loss, etc), but unless you put in backlink work to those hubs, you want get the traffic. After 50 or so hubs, I think I can confidently state this. They still can provide nice link juice to your money sites though.
So, people, don’t create hubs in all the usual suspects that 99% of the people are doing. Go after the low hanging fruit — niches that have little competition.
Ben, well said. You have to go after the low hanging fruit.
Yea. I probably should have started out with that mentality. Oh well, MMO is about trial and error. When something doesn’t work, change track and try something else.
I’m now very keen to see what 150 hubs targetting non competative keywords will bring!
Cheers
ben
After setting up the hubs are you listing it on rss feeds to rss agregators or other distribution services? or are we just going on the hub and google organic search??
Are your hubs modeled after the flagship method of hubpages?
The moneysite or webpage you are sending the links to are they review style pages? just wondering..
I just stumbled across the 30 Day Hub Challenge and it looks like a fantastic idea! HubPages are great!
BUT (and this is a big “but”), if you only use Hub Pages, you’re limiting yourself to the few bucks you can make from people clicking on the AdSense ads on your Hub Pages. As many of you have seen, the money you can make from Hub Pages alone isn’t very substantial.
What you really should be doing is using your Hub Pages and a WordPress blog together, and from both your Hub Pages, drive traffic to your blog, and from your blog, make money selling things as an affiliate.
Using this strategy, not only do you get a TON of traffic, but the blog allows you to build relationships that cause conversions to go up as well.
This is the exact strategy that you learn in the 30-Day IM Challenge (IM for Internet Marketing). The premise of my 30 Day Challenge is simple …
If you want to CONSISTENTLY make a 4 figure per month or better income – you’ve go to have the right mindset and you’ve got to follow your profitable passion. You can’t just throw up a bunch of Hub Pages, all of them in different niches — possibly even on topics that you know little about, and get serious income from it.
On the other hand, if you combine mindset and your profitable passion, use them to build relationships from a WordPress blog, and drive traffic in part using Hub Pages, you’ve got a winning combination that has you focused on one market. You now have one single audience that you can go after and build a list from so that you can use that list to make money over and over again.
You can then help that one audience to solve their problems and then sell them affiliate products that allow them to bigger results, better results, or faster results.
It’s really quite easy and involves only a simple 6 step process that you apply each day. It’s all laid out for you in detail in the 18 lessons contained in the Challenge.
By the end of the Challenge, you won’t be messing around for a few bucks here or there. Instead, you’ll have your WordPress blog set up in a way that will allow you to get as many as 1,000 to 5,000 unique visitors per day in less than 90 days. You’ll use that blog to build a list, adding as many as 20% of your visitors to your opt in list each day. And, you’ll convert that traffic into buyers by helping them to solve their problems.
In other words, by the end of the 30 Day IM Challenge you will not only make $1 each day for a week — you’ll instead be on your way to bringing in a very solid 4 figure monthly income every single month.
Hub Pages are great, but why limit yourself to only the few bucks you might pull in if people click on your AdSense ads on each Hub Page? Especially when it is so easy to make SO MUCH MORE from your Hub Pages, simply by tying them into the system that you’ll learn in the 30-Day IM Challenge!
Don’t worry — I’m not trying to sell you anything here! All 18 lessons are 100% free at http://www.30DayIMChallenge.com.
It’s not too hard to figure out what at least one of your other accounts is called!
this information helped me a lot – nice outframe of things.
Hi Court,
You mention low hanging and PR – what’s the highest PR you recommend competing with when using HubPages?
Thanks,
Faith
My best hub is now #1 on Google for a highly competitive acai berry product after 5 months.
It made me about $400 in two months from a CPA offer. That’s with over 100 visitors/day.
However, after more research, I wasn’t comfortable promoting these offers and gave the hub to someone else.
I added lots of relevant tags, social bookmarking spread over two months and a few other promotion ideas. It worked great. Time to choose another subject…
Hey court!
I like your posts!
Really a helpful post for new folks!
Thanks a lot!
Hi Everyone, just stoppin thru to tell ya about a great investment program I came across recently.Your Returns are guaranteed and investments start at $1.95 so it
Great article. I was going to start a new blog, but I decided to go with hub pages instead. I’m going to run a similar experiment of creating 100 hubs in 30 days, mostly of information about Chinese medicine and traveling since I’m from China.
Cool! i never knew you could make money from hub pages! I always brought domains, and its proving quite expensive! thanks for the helpful information i’m going to give it a try
great post! i currently have 20 hubs and don’t make anything from them at all
what am i doing wrong ? lol. I’m going to take you advice. Thanks for the info
Focusedblog. Do you mind sharing where the source of this information came from? It ties to a that I am also writing.
