Something that I’ve been asked a lot lately is whether it’s ok to use spun content for sites (and for promotion of sites). The most common situation where people are dying to use it is when they are submitting articles to other sites. Because of the guest posting system in our members area, it’s something that we have to monitor closely.
You NEVER want to use spun content. Don’t do it. You will get better, safer links if you use unique content to submit to other sites. Your risk is also significantly less if you use original, unique content.
People who believe that spun content is great will probably argue that it’s a huge time-save. This is only true if you’re looking at an extremely short time period. I don’t think you’re going to see residual value in those types of links. Google definitely has the technology to detect spun content and if they don’t, I know some programmers who could write something for them in about 10 minutes.
Sites like Text Broker are great if you need to do some outsourcing. You can get some high quality stuff there, at a good price. They can handle as much volume as you need. We all know that it takes a lot of writing to get anywhere, but there are legitimate methods that can be used to get it done.

Okay, but what about Unique Article Wizard? The Core videos explicitly say that using that the benefits of using that service way out number the draw backs.
If it’s not a good idea to use UAW should the timeline be expanded? What would you suggest as alternatives to using Unique Article Wizard? To be honest, if I don’t need to spend the extra $67 a month on that service I won’t. However, I have found that it works well as described in the core videos (though I found one of my better sites in the sandbox because of it the other day.)
So, what about UAW’s spun content?
I’ve still never used spun content for anything, but I will say I have thought about it plenty of times before. I won’t even think about it from now on. I have used Text Broker and they do pretty good work for a decent price. Not great but good enough for the needs of most people.
Spun content has its uses but I wouldn’t use spun content in my tier 1 and 2 sites as well as in the GPS. UAW is cool but I hope it reduces its price someday.
I would like to know what you mean exactly by spun content?
If you mean what we create on UAW, then I don’t know what you’re talking about.
This time last year you were praising it and you apparently made a lot of moolah from using UAW.
I have been very successful with it so far, but I’m only using it on my promotional network sites, not my “money pages”.
Please clarify,
Thanks!
I think the difference is between spun and re written content. Spun content is done where you enter an article and the software takes one phrase out of each sentence and re-writes it, so – ‘hair loss is great in men over 30,’ becomes ‘hair loss is great in men beyond 30,’ so the articles barely pass as unique and usually the software gives you 20 + versions of the same article – which makes for a lot of VERY similar text.
When you submit to UAW as per the videos; the article is re-written paragraph by paragraph and only 3 times, still the articles are pretty similar so if you send out the links slowly you should be okay.
Google flags link building relative to the links you already have or receive – if the site goes from 0 links a day to 50 links a day – that’s a problem.
The Guest Posting Service seems like an incredible system and well worth joining the KWA all by itself. I hope to join up sometime this year and am doing my best to work on “the outside” until I can get my cash up to afford it. Thanks for showing us the way Mark and Court – now it’s just up to use to have the discipline to make it happen.
Hey Court,
Have to agree 100% with you in this. Spun content sticks out like a sore thumb in articles and I’m convinced Google is able to sniff them out and ignore the links. I gave it a try about a year ago on a heavy linking project and while it got the main site ranked in the short term, it all fell away within a few weeks and those sites got buried. I stayed clear of spinning stuff ever since.
In fact, I’ve pretty much always been a champion of writing original content for main sites – probably easier for me as I started in this game as a freelance writer so I can bang out a 400 word article in about 15-20 minutes. But for those that hate writing, outsourcing is a good option as that way you get original stuff. Another option is Frank’s BCW, but only for low ranking sites and only for ones that aren’t likely to get moderated or flagged by some zealous perfectionist dickhead!
Remember, content needs to be relevant to your keywords It doesn’t have to be perfect, just relevant!
The OP asked about UAW and his question has not been answered. I also am waiting for that answer as UAW has served me well.
I’m also waiting for clarification on UAW
I find that spun content works great for link building, but not for ranking. If you are sending out articles that have been spun just for links then you should be fine. If you are spinning content and posting them on your site then good luck.
I guess we are not going to get any clarification on UAW. It’s easy to write a post like this, especially if you don’t have to back it up or answer any of the questions. Is this what it is like in the Keyword Academy? If so, I think I will pass.
